Sanctuary

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is considered the most Holy and most important part of the church.

It resembles heaven here on earth, which is why, when entering the Sanctuary shoes must be taken off. Only certain people can enter the Sanctuary. In the middle of the Sanctuary, there is an altar which is a table that can be made out of wood to represent the cross our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified on and, and also to represent the tree of life that was in the middle of the Garden of Eden; stone to represent the tomb where the Body of Christ was; or precious metals (silver or gold) to show the highest respect for the altar.

During the liturgical prayers, the altar is where the bread and wine are placed and where they are transformed into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.  In that, the altar represents the throne of God.
