Isaiah’s Vision of the Lord
Story found in Isaiah (6:2-7)
This icon is a depiction of the Prophet Isaiah’s vision of the Seraphim. He saw Seraphim’s who are angels with 6 wings, 2 covering their head, 2 covering their feet, and 2 they flew. They were worshiping God and saying “Holy, holy, Holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” Isaiah then felt unworthy to be in their presence because he had “Unclean lips”. Then one of the Seraphim, using a tong, grabbed a coal from the altar of incense and touched Isaiah’s mouth with it. The angel then proclaimed to Isaiah “Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged”.
This vision is a prophecy of the Holy Eucharist (Communion). Our orthodoxy believes that the blood and body of Christ cleanses our spirits, because they are the remission of our sins.
